Hi! I am soooo excited to be part of Mandee's new blog! My name is Mimi and I am a stylist based in NYC (and a total Mandee Girl) I work with many models, celebrities, musicians and designers, which takes me all over the world. My favorite client, of course, is Mandee, I have been styling their advertising and in-store images FOREVER (and now their Style Star Winner, too)!
And I’ve decided to take other Mandee Girls like you behind the scenes of a typical Mandee photo shoot and tell you what is happening in the world of fashion…
For our fall shoot, I was particularly excited to work with Lynsey, the Mandee's Fall 2009 Style Star Winner. Lynsey and I met at the Mandee store in Clifton, N.J. where a film crew followed us as I styled her entire look, transforming her into a true Mandee Girl. The next day she came to a NYC photo studio where we were shooting our fall looks and the ad campaign. Lynsey had her hair and makeup done by our famous artists and was shot by an even more famous photographer – and with the look that I had put together the day before, Lynsey looked INCREDIBLE!!!
Needless to say, the photo shoot was a blast! Three amazingly gorgeous models worked the runway (that was built just for this shoot!) while the photographer captured them in the fall looks. We covered all the trends from colored jeans to flashes of neon to textured hose and leggings. We had animal prints, metallic leather accessories, lots of lace and even a faux fur vest!! I was in total heaven. In just one day, my entire fall wardrobe was solved. Believe me, I wanted EVERYTHING, but I narrowed down my wish list. So here’s what I’ll be wearing next season. Don’t get me wrong – I am loving (and living in) a lot of my favorite clothes right now, but I soooo can't wait until the weather cools down so I can wear it all...
My absolute, total-favorite-of-all-time that I am rocking day and night in (and right now) are my virtual stretch jeans. They’re a really cool cross between a legging and a jean. They tuck me in at all the right places, and even give me a cute little butt. These jeans are my everyday base. I wear them with a chunky shoe (my black bootie with zippers or zip front open heels), a big belt and a tee (or two.) Or, I throw on a cute mini-dress on top (one with a bustier and cute little flirty skirt.) When I'm not feeling so girly, I rock the grunge plaid tunic with a metallic studded flat. The jeans make each style work without looking like I tried too hard. I throw my little tuxedo jacket on top and maybe my fedora and some killer sunglasses, and I have a total “thing” happening.
By the way, another favorite wear-with-everything-and-never-take-off piece is the just-mentioned little tux jacket. I have it in grey and in purple!!! Grey is THE new neutral for fall so I’ll wear it like a little black jacket (in other words, over everything). Purple is the color I am so after this year, so I had to have that too. And, trust me, the purple will go with everything too, even the pops of neon that I seem to work into almost every outfit. Most importantly, though, my little purple tux jacket brings out my purple Givenchy nail polish!
When I am not wearing one of my little tux jackets, I’ll be reaching for my shaggy faux fur vest, and begin my transformation into a rock star!
I’m throwing my neon pink lace tank top under everything, even if I only see an inch of it peeking out from under my colored leopard print top. This fall I am treating any animal print as a neutral so I stocked up from tops to leggings...
When I want to look classic (but with that Mandee twist) I’ll wear my royal blue trench-styled coat. All I need are my black textured hose and my black booties to feel totally put together. Throw on the fedora and some shades, and I'll feel even cooler.
My final wardrobe secret is that the bustier will be a staple and the real star of my wardrobe. I’ll be wearing it over a long sleeve tee, my virtual stretch jeans, or with one of my new favorite colored jeans (I'm loving the teal). If I’m feeling wild, I'll wear my neon lace tank under my bustier, and throw my fur vest on top. To dress things up I'll wear the bustier with my little tux jacket, my new high waisted mini skirt and grey zebra leggings. I can even go classic with it under my camel knit vest and grey corduroys, flats and maybe the fedora. The options are endless...
And now that I have gone through my fall wardrobe, I can't wait to see what's in store for Holiday!!!
